Power Surge on Hub Port - SOLVED
A USB Device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port
4:17pm PST
How to solve the "Power Surge on Hub Port" error!

I've got a Seagate Freeagent 1 Terabyte USB external hard drive at work. One night, I was backing up stuff to it, left it on overnight (obviously it didn't move), came back the next day, and I see this error message about "Power Surge on Hub Port" - this is Windows XP SP3 btw. Restart computer, same error.

I google it. TONS of posts about removing USB devices from Device Manager, restart computer to reinstall them, then disable warnings. Okay, this would disable warnings, but it doesn't fix the issue. More posts about people jiggling their cable and it randomly working. Tried it, no go. Reading the posts though, I realized that the error wasn't specific to my device as people had issues with digital cameras/printers/etc.

Tried the drive on a different system. Same error. This bothers me, because now I'm thinking it must be the device itself, but I rarely use it.

Thinking about people getting lucky with jiggling the cable, and it hits me... swap the cable.

Swap the USB cable, and presto, bam, perfecto. Problem solved. I can't believe that after so many people had this issue, and after so many posts on the internet, this solution wasnt posted anywhere. Hopefully this helps someone out there.

12:31am PST
Alright, alright, I got 2nd place, not 1st, but I only lost to the korean, so I was the highest placing American. Not too shabby! Needless to say, it was one of the best experiences I've had in Tekken. 3 years in a row now I've played on stage at Evolution. Thats gotta be some kind of record haha.

Anyways, here's the vids and some pics:

Happy New Year Everyone!
2009 - Great Year
10:01pm PST
Man, I've had a really good last couple of years. Although I got laid off from my full time job at the end of 2008, I went back to part time work in 2009 and still had an amazing year.

Quick recap of 2009:
January - Went back to part time work

February - Street Fighter 4 Launch Party in LA. Crazy night, 2nd rate celebrities on a red carpet etc.

March - Joined Space Dragons Dragonboat Team, got my iPhone!

April - Ninja Warrior (NinjaFest) aka SuckFest
-Went to Arizona to compete for the first time with Space Dragons. Fun weekend.
-Kogi truck is overrated

May - DNF development team let go after 12 years =( on my birthday.
-Went to Norcal for SS3

June - Went to Vancouver,Canada with Space Dragons (tandem biked with Stephanie around Stanley Park/zipline/ATV riding), had some awesome food.
-Drove down from Vancouver by bus to Washington/Oregon and saw Mt St Helens/Space Needle/Pike Place/underground cave exploring/ kayaking around San Juan islands

July - Went to Vegas and won Evo2k9 Tekken 6 Exhibition Tournament

August - Spent a few weeks in Tokyo, Japan. Saw the sites, played in SBO/Joybox. Ton of fun.

September - Dragonboated in Treasure Island with Space Dragons. Awesome day before the tournament with Stephanie/AnnieG/Bill

October - Signed up at 24 Hour Fitness finally. Tekken 6 Launch Party / Tekken 6 released / Began work on LUYG

November - Launched Level Up Your Game webseries. Placed 2nd at Norcal Regionals.

December - Tekken 6 Nationals tournament in San Francisco. Did not do well at all, but it was a crazy cool tournament setup (in a boxing ring) and streamed live on the internet, and I got to meet the producer of Tekken 6 where he personally thanked MYK and myself for LUYG (should've taken pictures with him)

And of course the random gatherings with friends, LAN parties, Rock Band LANs, movies, Tasters Choice dinners, etc

2010, you've got a lot to follow..

Level Up Your Game
Web Series Launched
6:28pm PST
So basically, in the beginning of October while listening to my podcast for iamtekken.com I realized that I didn't really say anything wortwhile for anyone to learn my character. Then I was listening to the FAB podcast, and they were talking through some really detailed setups but I couldn't visualize it, BAM!-PRESTO, got the idea, and here we are.

A new video series aimed to help get new players up to speed quicker with the game and provide insight for/from veteran players regarding each of the characters in the game. In this first episode we cover the very basics of the game, but as we move on through the series we’re going to bring in guests and cover each of the characters in depth.

LEVEL UP YOUR GAME - TEKKEN 6 - (part 1 of 5)

LEVEL UP YOUR GAME - TEKKEN 6 - (part 2 of 5)

LEVEL UP YOUR GAME - TEKKEN 6 - (part 3 of 5)

LEVEL UP YOUR GAME - TEKKEN 6 - (part 4 of 5)

LEVEL UP YOUR GAME - TEKKEN 6 - (part 5 of 5)

Where do we go from here? We'll see, but as a side note, I have been invited to the Tekken 6 National Tournament in San Francisco December 11th. Not sure if they're going to be streaming that anywhere, but if they are, I'll post a link here! Stay tuned!

Japan Trip Recap
3:54am PST
So I visited Japan last month. Really fun, really busy, really interesting place. Mainly stayed/visited around Tokyo and its 23 wards, so I'll have to go back in the future to visit the rest of the country. Toughest part was probably the lack of English. I really thought that at least Tokyo would've catered more towards tourists, but while there may be SOME english signs, most people there do not speak english. So getting around wasn't the easiest thing to figure out.

Coolest little things about Japan:
1) Food portions - You don't get ridiculous amounts of food like we do here in America. Coincidence that seeing an overweight person is super rare over there while its EXTREMELY common here?

2) Train system - Get anywhere you want with trains. You don't have to drive there, you can just sit on the train and do whatever you need to do. LA's public transport system SUCKS^infinity in comparison. This is probably another reason that everyone there is so fit. Trains = more walking to/from stations, and up/down stairs in stations, so it keeps you fit as well.

3) Cleanliness - Streets / city is kept very clean. More impressive, there are so few trash cans around. You'll be walking the streets for awhile, and you won't find a trash can/recycle bin for a mile, and it'll be the size of one you might have in your kitchen.

4) The 'trash/recycling system' in general - Say you go to a KFC or McDonalds. You have your food on your tray. You finish eating, you go to throw it out. Theres one spot to pour out your remaining drink/ice from the cup, a drop spot for the cup (so it stacks automatically somewhere unknown!), another spot to throw away the plastics (straw/lid from cup), and another spot to throw away the papers (tray paper/napkin/wrappers/cardboard). At first I was really annoyed by at it, but by the end of the trip I was really impressed with it. The fact that they're on an island with restricted space for dumping, the emphasis on recycling is important.

5) Auto-defogging mirror's in the bathroom - So you come out of the shower and want to see something in the mirror? No problem - above the sink, its automatically defogged! Amazing!

6) The toilet - Period.

I posted a bunch of pictures on facebook already, so take a look there if you're interested in seeing some of the pictures: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=106878&id=633864145
