Got invited to Korea to compete in Tekken Crash. Tons of fun over there. Wrote up a lot about the whole experience at the new site
PART 1 PART 2
Got a lot of ideas and stuff in the pipeline for the new site. Not sure what the plan is for this site anymore. Will probably use it to experiment on new web tech (HTML 5 primarily).

So, one of my life goals is finally accomplished lol. Took me a few years longer than expected to finally get around to it, but here it is, my first app on the App Store. A basic Tekken 6 data app for people new to the game.
I had such an amazing 2010 that I really have doubts about having a better year in 2011, but we'll see what happens =p
I have submitted my first app to Apple's app store, so if they don't reject it, I'll have my first app in the store this year, 2011!
Anywho, I'm starting up Level Up Your Game and some other stuff in association with this up, but I threw together this picture/video memory clip thing of my Tekken stuff from 2010, check it out

So I havent been posting here much in the last few years, but I recently made a couple of posts, and all of a sudden I'm getting a TON of spam comments. Pretty strange timing. Its interesting because this whole blog 'engine' I designed from the ground up years and years ago before WordPress etc came into being and I ended up putting some code in to block spam. So after half an hour, I finally figured out I left some holes in other pages to leave comments, whoops. So now they're closed and the spammers can go screw themselves. SUCKERS!
Which leads me to.. WHY? Why target a page that doesn't get THAT much traffic to put your spam comments on? I dont have an answer for that other than that whoever is spamming must be a moron.
But yeah, I kind of want to start this up again. We'll see

Tutorial for how to record from Call of Duty:Black Ops in full HD without any capture equipment.
Step 1: Already have your Clip edited/saved to one of the six slots in your File Share.
Step 2: Go to your Steam folder (ex. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\players)
Step 3: Edit the config_mp.cfg file
a) r_clipSize is the resolution you want. Possible options are 360,480,720,1080. Set to 1080 for best results (and largest file size)
b) Set Binds to record/stop record:
bind KP_END "movie_start Film.avi"
bind KP_PGDN "movie_stop Film.avi" This sets numpad END (1) to start record and numpad PgDN (3) to stop record. It will record to the file Film.avi in your root Black Ops folder (ex. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\). Note that you'll have to rename it, move it, or erase it before recording the next file.
Step 4: Start up the game. Go to the Theater, Go to your File Share, Click a spot for Playback, and click Start Clip.
Step 5: When it starts up, hit F1 to remove the playback controls from showing, then when you want to start recording hit KP_END. When you're ready to stop recording hit KP_PGDN. You should now have a Film.avi in your Black Ops root folder (ex. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\).
NOTES: Two other settings exist in the CFG for these recorded clips:
a) r_clipCodec - Possible options, VP8 or MJPEG. VP8 would not give me sound, however has a much better resolution/filesize ratio. For now, stick with MJPEG.
b) r_clipFPS - I believe this is supposed to be the FPS to capture at, however it seems to only affect the output container, not the actual # of frames captured. For example, if you set this to 60, it still seems to capture 24fps, but the playback container is saved at 60, so the video players over 2x fast. I suppose you could set this to 12 to make your video playback in half speed?
-Setting my com_maxfps to 24 before recording seems to give me better smoother capture/playback. Difficult to tell if this is just in my head though.
Example results seen here:

So for awhile now I've been using this MacBook Pro to develop iPhone apps (except I've never gotten that far hehe). Well, about a year ago I ran into an issue where the SBBOD would come up anytime I clicked on anything or typed in anything at all and it would "load" for 30-40 seconds etc yet the mouse was totally responsive and I could even move windows around no problem. The Activity Monitor showed no problems (nothing hogging CPU unnecessarily). I reset PRAM and all this other crap suggested on forums etc, everyone said it was hard drive failure, yet all the Disk Check Utility stuff/repair permissions etc came back clean.
Randomly, the issue went away and I was fine for months. Yesterday it returned (as I'm actually getting close to releasing an app). So I was pissed. Googled EVERYTHING, and finally found something I never saw before. Clearing caches.
Go to [drive]/Library/Cache and delete/move all that stuff out, then go to your user folder/Library/Cache and delete/move all that stuff out. Presto, instant fixed. Restart, started up REALLLY slow, but then its all perfect now.
Somewhere in there it lost the settings for my DNS server, so my wifi would connect but I had no internet access. Went into Network settings, and just cleared out all DNS entries and it worked fine after that.

Power Surge on Hub Port - SOLVED
A USB Device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port
I've got a Seagate Freeagent 1 Terabyte USB external hard drive at work. One night, I was backing up stuff to it, left it on overnight (obviously it didn't move), came back the next day, and I see this error message about "Power Surge on Hub Port" - this is Windows XP SP3 btw. Restart computer, same error.
I google it. TONS of posts about removing USB devices from Device Manager, restart computer to reinstall them, then disable warnings. Okay, this would disable warnings, but it doesn't fix the issue. More posts about people jiggling their cable and it randomly working. Tried it, no go. Reading the posts though, I realized that the error wasn't specific to my device as people had issues with digital cameras/printers/etc.
Tried the drive on a different system. Same error. This bothers me, because now I'm thinking it must be the device itself, but I rarely use it.
Thinking about people getting lucky with jiggling the cable, and it hits me... swap the cable.
Swap the USB cable, and presto, bam, perfecto. Problem solved. I can't believe that after so many people had this issue, and after so many posts on the internet, this solution wasnt posted anywhere. Hopefully this helps someone out there.

Alright, alright, I got 2nd place, not 1st, but I only lost to the korean, so I was the highest placing American. Not too shabby! Needless to say, it was one of the best experiences I've had in Tekken. 3 years in a row now I've played on stage at Evolution. Thats gotta be some kind of record haha.
